ABB’s new generation low-voltage AC transmission products adopt a universal architecture designed specifically to simplify operations, optimize energy efficiency, and expand output. This new architecture enables ABB’s next-generation industrial drive to not only control any type of AC motor, but also be compatible with all major fieldbus communication protocols and remote monitoring solutions.
In terms of performance, it is an industrial grade product, which is the highest performance product series, suitable for various harsh environments and industrial fields, with the highest reliability and software applicable to all motors.
The core technology used in ACS880 transmission is ABB’s most advanced motor control technology – direct torque control (DTC), which can control all types of motors from AC induction motors to permanent magnet motors.
ACS880 can provide functions such as energy optimizer and energy efficiency information to help monitor and save energy consumption in process flow. The built-in energy consumption calculator can calculate the amount of electricity consumed, saved, reduced carbon dioxide emissions, and saved funds, helping users fine tune the process to ensure the best energy use. The energy optimization feature ensures that each ampere of electricity can bring maximum torque, thereby reducing motor energy consumption.
In 2013, ABB released the new generation of versatile industrial transmission ACS880 series in China, which added a heavyweight member to the ABB transmission family. Mr. Pekka Titinen, Senior Vice President and Global Head of Transmission and Control Business Unit of ABB Group, told Chinese media:; Innovation is a topic of concern in today’s era and one of the five core cultural elements of ABB Group. The ACS880 series of products is an innovative product that is not simply an improvement or upgrade of the original product, but is based on the latest market and customer needs as a blueprint, which drives research and development and product design, condenses and reflects the latest technology and concepts, and ultimately forms a versatile product for all types of users, industrial processes, enterprises, and environments. It is currently ABB’s best transmission product& Rdquo;
From November 5th to 9th, ACS880 multi transmission made its debut at the China Industrial Expo. ABB’s space saving compact ACS880 multi transmission series products are customized transmission solutions based on customer needs. They adopt a common DC bus structure, allowing a single power input to be used by multiple transmissions. The circulation of energy on the public DC bus can achieve energy and cost savings, as not all energy comes from the power supply network, so the power supply units in the transmission can have smaller sizes. Single power input and shared power supply units reduce the demand for wiring and bottom space, saving investment and maintenance costs.
The protection level has been extended from the standard IP22 to IP42; Multi transmission products are suitable for industries such as metallurgy, pulp and paper making, oil and natural gas, mining, ports, offshore, maritime, and electricity. They can be customized for applications such as paper machines, winches, steel mills, various process processing lines, rollers, cranes, and drilling rigs.
The ACS880 series demonstrates unprecedented compatibility and flexibility, and the reason why the ACS880 can achieve; Versatile;, Thanks to ABB’s industry-leading innovative technology and unique and exquisite design.
The core technology used in the ACS880 series products is ABB’s most advanced motor control technology& Flash; Direct torque control (DTC) can control all types of motors from AC induction motors to permanent magnet motors. DTC was developed by ABB and is considered to replace traditional open-loop and closed-loop pulse width modulation methods in the near future. ABB has been researching DTC technology since the 1980s and launched its first industrial grade AC transmission product using DTC technology in 1995. So far, DTC technology has successfully and reliably operated on a large number of customer sites around the world, using ACS600 series and ACS800 series products as carriers. In 2012, ABB conducted a series of experiments to further improve DTC technology and ensure that it maintains its peak performance in the field of AC transmission. Some significant improvements have been applied to the ACS880 series products, which ABB refers to as enhanced DTC.
Enhanced DTC can achieve higher precision open-loop motor control (such as torque stability near zero speed), and various types of speed feedback devices such as absolute value encoders and rotary transformers can be used for closed-loop control. The ACS880 series products can provide higher starting torque and enhanced control performance, such as a maximum output frequency of 500Hz and a maximum switching frequency of 16kHz. Due to the use of faster DSP processors, the speed of the given chain is reduced from 10 milliseconds to 2 milliseconds. The ACS880 series products can support asynchronous motors, permanent magnet motors, and synchronous reluctance motors with just one set of firmware.
In addition, the ACS880 series products adopt a universal architecture designed specifically for simplifying operations, optimizing energy efficiency, and expanding output. The universal architecture adopts the same control panel, parameter menu structure, universal accessories, and engineering tools. This new architecture enables ABB’s next-generation industrial drive to not only control any type of AC motor, but also be compatible with all major fieldbus communication protocols and remote monitoring solutions.
