The ABB 520CMD01 communication unit (CMU) is the brains of the RTU520 product line. It’s a remote terminal unit (RTU) designed for DIN rail mounting.

The 520CMD01 acts as a central controller, managing and controlling process events and communicating with control centers based on the software it’s running.

It accomplishes this by:

• Reading process events from input modules
• Sending commands to output modules
• Communicating with control systems and local HMI systems via serial interfaces (RS232) and the Ethernet 10/100BaseT interface

  • Communication Port 1 (CP1): a serial interface according to RS232C with RJ45 connector
  • Communication Port 2 and 3 (CP2 & CP3): serial interfaces according to RS485 with RJ45 connector
