The Bently Nevada 3300/48-01-01-00-00 Case Expansion Monitor is a device used to monitor the growth of a machine casing relative to its foundation
This is important because excessive casing growth can be an indicator of machine problems, such as bearing wear or looseness.
The monitor uses two DC Linear Variable Differential Transformers (LVDTs) to measure the difference in position between the casing and the foundation. The LVDTs are basically transducers that convert linear displacement into an electrical signal. The monitor then compares this signal to two user-adjustable alarm setpoints.
If the casing growth exceeds either setpoint, an alarm will be triggered.
