An Electronic Overspeed Detection System (EODS) is a safety device used in rotating machinery to prevent catastrophic failures caused by excessive speed. It is most commonly found in turbines, generators, and other industrial equipment.
The EODS continuously monitors the rotational speed of the equipment. If the speed exceeds a predetermined safe limit, the EODS will take corrective action, such as:
- Tripping the machine offline
- Closing a valve to reduce speed
- Sounding an alarm
